This puzzle contains some sport covabulary from several different sports. As the title hints to, and the phrase "long and short," it should be noted that these sports temrs refer to some pass/kick/throw/play, be it short or long, in that sport.

Now, having the phrases "long" and "short," as well as the words "dot" and "dash" appearing in the flavortext, these sports moves should be converted to Morse code.
Sequence | Morse Code | Letter |
---|---|---|
LONG - SHORT - LONG - SHORT | -.-. | C |
SHORT - SHORT - LONG | ..- | U |
SHORT - LONG - SHORT | .-. | R |
SHORT - LONG - SHORT | .-. | R |
SHORT | . | E |
LONG - SHORT | -. | N |
LONG - SHORT - LONG - SHORT | -.-. | C |
LONG - SHORT - LONG - LONG | -.-- | Y |
Converting these Morse code sequences into English letters spells CURRENCY, our answer and something that matters greatly with sports.
